First came Jake who was a puppy when we adopted him in May of 2000 from the Animal Lifeline of Iowa, the only no-kill shelter here in central Iowa. We believe that he is part Brittany. His mom and grandmom were left abandoned in a house after their owners moved out. They were both pregnant at the time. The puppies(fifteen in all)were born at the shelter. We adopted Jake at the age of nine weeks.

Then came Rolli, named for the fact she's always rolling over to get her belly rubbed. She was also a puppy when she, along with her parents, three brothers and sister, were abandoned near our property a little over a month after we adopted Jake. We know that she is part Border Collie from her dad's side, but what else she may be, we don't know. We also don't know for sure how old Rolli is. Unfortunately, we could not afford to care for all of the dogs, and the Animal Lifeline was filled to capacity, so we took the others to the Animal Rescue League in Des Moines. We pray that they all have found good homes.

Then came Angel, also a puppy when she became the next member of our family two years later. She and her sibling jumped out of the back of a moving pickup while the person who owned them was driving to a friend's to see if that friend wanted them. They were only around ten weeks of age. Her sibling made it back home three hours later. Four days later, suffering from a broken leg, Angel wandered into our yard. After being able to track down that person and a trip to the vet where we found out about her leg, we decided to keep her. She is an Australian Cattle Dog (blue heeler) mix and a real clown who loves playing with Rolli and especially Jake, sometimes to their dismay. I would like to say she lives up to her name, but she doesn't a lot of the time. We have grown to love her anyway.

Max our newest addition, is another rescue. He's only been with us a couple of weeks, but has already become spoiled. Angel has taken it upon herself to be his surrogate mother and has been teaching him the ropes. He looks to be part yellow lab, but we're not sure what else, possibly according to our vet, shepherd. He is a little sweetie, but he loves to aggravate the cats.

We hope you enjoy the following pictures of Jake's, Rolli's, Angel's, and Max's daily lives. Be sure to check back often, as the pictures do change.

Mom, did you see what Max did?
I can see why the cats like sitting here, it's a nice view.
Ha, ha, I got the window seat.
Thanks for the new harness mom; no more

hand-me-downs for this pup!
