Velcro's Diary

August 1, 2000

So they caught me taking a bite of their food. You would have thought that I ate all of it, the way they chased after me. Even Rolli, and I thought that she was afraid of me. I guess not anymore, which is a real bummer. There goes my plans to take over this joint. I guess I gotta come up with a new one. I have a feeling that I'm going to have to include Jake in whatever I come up with. Maybe I won't include either one. Yea, why should I, the way they both turned on me? They don't deserve to be included.

Mom found some more pictures of me to put on this site again. I swear, she's out to make me the laughing stock of the cat world. I'll never be able to show my face in public again. But, on the other hand, maybe I'll become rich and famous and someone will form the Velcro Fan Club and I'll have fans. That would be kind of cool, sorta like Garfield. He's my idol, you know. I live to be just like him. Boy, those dogs will wish they treated me better then!

August 31, 2000

Boy, has it been hot here these past few days. Still hasn't made it to the 100 º mark, but it's come awfully close. The puppies are still getting on my nerves, of course. I don't think that will change anytime soon. The boys are back in school, which makes it kind of quiet around here during the day. Except for those puppies. They can get pretty noisy. It's really nice when they decide to take naps. I wish they'd take one now. They're running around the house like a couple of maniacs. They call them "the herd of two." I can see why. That's exactly what they sound like when they're running all over the place, a herd. They're going to be getting, what they call,"fixed," so hopefully that will calm them down. At least that's what everyone says. I know that Jake goes in next week. They ought to try and get Rolli in there at the same time. Maybe they have a "two for one" special. I think she's going to be yelling at them again for something. They've gotten real quiet all of a sudden. Yep, I was right.

September 1, 2000

They made Mom screw up her ankle yesterday. She went to take them out, and on the way out the door, she got her foot caught and fell. She's supposed to go and get it checked today to make sure it's not broken. Boy, I hope not, because when Jake and Rolli start getting really obnoxious, she comes in and shues them away. She can't do that too well if she's got a broken ankle. Real smart guys!

September 8, 2000

Boy, is it quiet around here. Almost too quiet. Jake is at the vet getting fixed, so he and Rolli aren't running around acting like maniacs. In fact, Rolli's been moping around all morning. She's hardly eaten, she just has this really depressed look on her face. I guess she really likes Jake afterall. Mom keeps telling her that he'll be home tomorrow, but I can kind of understand if she's hesitant to believe her. She told her that she can go with them when they go to pick him up. I feel kind of sorry for her. She looks so sad. Mom didn't break her ankle last week after all, it's just sprained. But she had to walk around on crutches for a few days, and keep her foot up as much as possible. Needless to say, Jake and Rolli, but especially Jake took advantage of it. Talk about being terrors! Oh well, I gotta admit, it's too quiet. Even I miss the little bugger today. I know, I can't believe I'm saying that myself, but it's true. It'll be nice to have him back home again. Well, maybe not nice, but it definitely won't be boring.

September 14, 2000

Man, they said that operation was supposed to calm Jake down. When?! He's still as hyper as ever. Now they're saying that it might take a little time, because there are still some horomones in his system. Yea, and how long do we have to wait? I was hoping that he would come home a nice calm puppy. HUH! Boy, was I wrong. They said that Rolli's supposed to go in for a simular operation in a few weeks. If she comes back as hyper as he is, I'm moving!

September 24, 2000

Mom changed the look of my weboage today. I think it looks really cool. Plus, she added a link so that my fans can email me. I wonder how much email I'll get. Probably a lot. I hope everyone else who sees the new look likes it as much as I do.

October 4, 2000

Now, not only do I have to put up with those stupid puppies, they want me to catch mice! Well, I tried once, but then Rolli spotted me and started growling. How am I supposed to do my job if those puppies won't let me?! So, if they want someone to catch the mice, have Jake and Rolli do it. At least then they'll be of some use. That's more than I can say for them now. Right now, all they are is a nuisance. Let them catch the mice and I'll supervise.

October 6, 2000

Well, it's Rolli's turn at the vet. She'll be back tomorrow. I kind of feel sorry for Jake, because you can tell he misses her. He's either moping around, or searching around the house for her. He hasn't eaten either, but Mom did give him a couple of chew things to chew on earlier. Poor kid.

October 18, 2000

Rolli gets her stitches out in two days. She also has this cone-like thing on her head to keep her from getting to them. Jake had the same thing, but he didn't have to keep his on as long. She looks so funny though, almost like a satellite dish. For the first week, she was milking it for all of the attention she could get out of it too. Like when ever she got up on the bed or couch, she would start whining so that someone would come to pick her up and put her on the floor. Talk about being pathetic. But, everyone caught on to her little act after they saw that she didn't need their help. Now, except for that weird cone thing, she's back to her old self. At least now we don't have to worry about any more puppies, unless more show up at our door.

November 3, 2000

Well Halloween has come and gone, but I didn't get any treats. The puppies get treats, but I don't. Well, at least not as often as they do. They should have taken them out trick or treating. I mean, they would fit right in. They're always little monsters, unless they're sleeping. I have to admit though, I'm glad that I'm not a totally black cat. Apparently this time of the year is not a good time for them. A lot of the shelters won't even let anyone adopt a black cat or kitten this time of the year, for their safety. Now that's scarey. Why would anyone want to hurt a black cat, or any cat, and yes, dog, or any animal? It just doesn't make sense to me. Some humans can be so cruel.

November 12, 2000

The puppies are calming down somewhat. Jake's not as hyper as he once was. I guess fixing him did calm him down, it just took awhile. Rolli's still pretty laid back, but she has her moments, especially when she wants to play and Jake is sleeping. She'll jump on him to wake him up. It's funny to watch. Mom washed my blanket and put it on my chair. It's nice and warm. I've also been sleeping on Kenneth's bed at night sometimes. I would sleep on Mom and Dad's bed, but the puppies took that over. I hear they're worse bedhogs than I am. I'm not surprised.

November 26, 2000

Wow, it looks like a winter wonderland out there this morning. Everything has a really thick coat of frost on it. It looks so pretty. Wonder when we're going to get snow though. The puppies haven't seen snow yet. Thursday was Thanksgiving, but I didn't get any turkey or stuff. I wasn't expecting any though. I think the only thing the puppies got was a little bit of gravy over their food. They used to give Casey and Frisco, the first dogs that lived with us a long time ago, a whole plate of stuff at Thanksgiving. Maybe Jake and Rolli are still a little young for that. Either that or they decided that maybe it wasn't such a good idea. Apparently there is a mother cat and at least one kitten living in the hay barn. They just took up residence there one day. Mom bought a bag of food and took some out to them. She said that if we encourage them to stay, they'll take care of the mice and sometimes rats outside. Just as long as that's where they do stay, I don't care, but don't let them in here. It's crowded enough now. Actually too crowded with those puppies.

December 1, 2000

We got our first snowfall overnight. Mom took the puppies out this morning and she said that Jake was eating it. He and Rolli didn't know what it was. They were running around and sniffing it, and of course Jake was eating it. That dog will eat anything, I swaer. Now they're sitting on the bench at the window watching it snow. Ah, the wonders of watching the world through a child's eye, even if it is a puppy. It's sure starting to feel like Christmas though.

December 9, 2000

We may get a blizzard on Monday, whatever that is. All I know is that it has something to do with the weather and includes snow. Speaking of which, we got more snow after that first time. We got about the same amount. Again, the puppies went crazy. This time they're calling for between four and eight inches. Man, they'll really go nuts out there if we get that much! Right now they're sleeping, so at least they're quiet. Mom keeps saying how cute they look when they're sleeping. Yea, that's the only time they're cute, if you want to call it that. More like tolerable. I just took a look at the pictures on my webpage, and Mom needs to get some new pictures up there. Those ones have been on there for awhile now. Hopefully she'll see this and get the hint.

A Puppy Christmas, by Velcro

It was the day before Christmas,
For the two little mutts,
Neither puppy was sleeping,
They were driving me nuts!

Mom was franticly chasing
Jake up and down the hall,
He got hold of a present,
He was having a ball!

Rolli was watching
And biding her time
Until she could pounce
On him from behind.

As Mom in her nightgown,
And dad in his shorts,
Were chasing Jake and yelling
A list of choice words.

And all the while I sat,
And casually observed,
Waiting to give those two puppies
The swats they deserved.

January 10, 2001

Happy New Year! I know that I'm a little late, but as they say, better late than never. The snow we've had on the ground is finally melting. Supposed to get more this weekend though. The puppies are still driving me up a wall, but what do you expect. Not much has changed, same old, same old. I guess before I bore myself to sleep, I'll sign off for now. Hopefully I'll have better stuff to write later.

February 13, 2001

Darn that stupid groundhog! I am really starting to get sick of all of this snow, and now we're supposed to get more! Last night on the news, they said that we have had snow on the ground for at least sixty days. We had more snow in just December alone than we had all last winter. When the first batch was almost melted, we got more. When they had the roads nice and clean from that one, it snowed again. Now that the roads are starting to look clear again, it's supposed to snow again. And if that ain't bad enough, there's also supposed to be freezing rain first, which is the way it was the last two times. Mom keeps saying that she can't wait until spring, that she's sick of all of the snow. It feels like spring will never get here sometimes. Whoever said that we were going to have a bad winter this year wasn't kidding, this one has been a doozy!

March 7, 2001

It's time for me to go, so I will say goodbye and leave you now. Take care.

Final Note: Velcro passed away after a short illness on March 7, 2001. He will be greatly missed by his family and those who knew him.
